1. Gather Your Materials

  • A smooth, flat surface
  • A wooden block or a piece of wood
  • A soft cloth or leather strop

2. Examine the Knife

Inspect your pocket knife to identify the type of blade and edge. This will help you determine the best sharpening technique to use.

3. Prepare the Sandpaper

Choose a piece of sandpaper with a coarse grit (around 120-220) and a fine grit (around 400-600). Cut the sandpaper to fit the length of your knife blade.

Attach the sandpaper to a flat, smooth surface using tape. Make sure the sandpaper is securely fastened and won’t move while sharpening.

5. Hold the Knife Properly

8. Strop the Blade

After sharpening, use a soft cloth or leather strop to further refine the edge. Hold the strop at a 30-degree angle to the blade and pull the knife across the strop in a smooth, continuous motion. This will help remove any microscopic burrs and create a polished edge.

9. Clean and Oil the Knife

After sharpening, clean your knife to remove any sandpaper particles. Apply a small amount of oil to the blade to prevent rust and keep it in good condition.
